FAQS: U.S. Program

WHEN DOES THE PROGRAM TAKE PLACE?

The U.S. summer program runs for a period of 11-13 weeks, between May and September depending on final placement location.

HOW MUCH DOES THE PROGRAM COST?

The U.S. program has an application fee of $50.00. If you are offered a work contract at a U.S. summer camp, you will also be responsible for the following expenses:

  • Program participation fee ($250.00 paid to You Travel & Teach)

  • All fees associated with obtaining the visa including embassy fees and medical screenings

  • Round trip flight to the U.S.

  • Must have bank account balance of $1,000 or equivalent in local currency for visa issuance (this is not money you have to pay as part of the program, just funds you have to have at your disposal)

AM I ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?

This program is open to applicants of all nationalities, except U.S. citizens. All program candidates must speak and understand conversational English. It is not necessary to take a language evaluation exam prior to applying, as our program staff will assess your language level and let you know if it is sufficient to pursue an application. Additionally, applicants must possess a skill or hobby that is relevant to the summer camp. These could include, but are not limited to: Arts and crafts, science and IT, sports, water sports, performing arts, circus, firearms, extreme sports, music, dance, animal related, photography, fishing, gymnastics, media, outdoor activities, culinary arts, martial arts, and archery. Experience working with adults and children with disabilities is also highly desirable!

There is no maximum age limit for the program, though you must be at least 18 years old to apply. 

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE COST OF THE PROGRAM?

Program tuition includes:

  • 7 - 9 week paid work opportunity at U.S. summer camp

    • Earn $1,950 - $2,050 USD depending on your level of experience!

  • ​J-1 Visa valid for 11 - 13 weeks, allowing for 1 month of travel in the U.S. after camp

    • Travel after contract at camp has ended is optional and will be at your own expense​

  • Meals and housing included while at camp

  • ​Complementary medical insurance included

  • Transportation from U.S. airport to camp included

WHAT ARE THE ACCOMMODATIONS?

While at camp, you will be in shared housing for the camp staff. Accommodations often take the form of cabins or something similar depending on placement location.

HOW DO I APPLY?

You can apply through the "Apply Now" link for any of our programs by navigating to the program page under the "Summer Programs" tab in the navigation bar at the top of the webpage. 

WHAT IS THE TIMELINE FOR APPLICATIONS?

The timeline for program application is the following:

  • Rolling applications for program admission: November 1st - June 1st. The sooner you get your application in, the better! If a camp offers you a work contract, ample time is required to issue your J-1 visa.​
